Two weeks a go, The OC returned to television sets throughout the US for it’s forth season. The decision to run a forth season is a bizarre one to say the least as season 3 obtained the lowest ratings in the shows admittedly short history. If that wasn’t bad enough for the show, then Mischa Bartons’ departure was surely the final proverbial nail in the shows coffin! Now before you read any further, I’d like to state that while I am male, I am also 100% hetrosexual!
Somehow though, the shows writers managed to persuade FOX executives that it was good enough for at least one more season. In what I can only imagine to have been an insane cocktail party, the executives drunkenly agreed to a paltry 16 initial episodes which may be extended depending on the initial ratings.
When episode one was released, I jumped on it and started downloading. When I got to watch it, I was disappointed to say the very least. I know that the (almost) adult male audience isn’t the shows primary target, but in watching the episode, I felt somewhat alienated and for the first time since I started watching the show, I felt as if I shouldn’t be watching it. Watching Kaitlin, the new lead character (played by the 15 year old Willa Holland) prance around in a miniscule amount of clothing and having the camera focus on her ass at every opportunity just didn’t really do it for me. Well, not in the sense that I wanted it to.
It then occured to me that perhaps I’m only noticing all this because there has yet to be a story established for this young new lead. She is, for the moment, merely serving as eye candy. The trouble is that the writers have to establish a gripping storyline for the character that will somehow manage to win back viewers who have instead migrated to alternative shows such as “One Tree Hill”. So if the new characters aren’t up to much, what about Summer, Seth, Ryan and co? We have so far been treated to a slight glimpse as to what they’ve been up to, but there has been no turbulent story lines yet. It seems as if they’re trying to start over!
Time isn’t on their side though, as a decision on the future of The OC will have to made soon, and according to TheOCBlogger, things aren’t looking good for the troubled series, with it’s first two episodes flopping with the US audience.
i’ve seen the first four episodes and i thout they were brilliant! there is so much emotion and lots of storylines.
They have also made Taylor a main character and i think she is amazing this season. I wish people would stop judgin this season before they have seen it! Luckily the show isn’t aimed at people like you and no one really cares what you think!
i agree. the oc is so crap. i find one tree hill so much better. i mean at least we can relate to it. watching stupid rich kids like kaitlin getting high so daft and stupid. they should just leave the show. its crap and never gonna be good

No the OC is crap. It was made for people like us. It was supposed to be brain candy, not a Kola crapping a rainbow in your brain. They have done nothing but nothing. Ryan a cage fighter? Seth is now too cool for school it seems like. His humor works on a self depricating level, not this “look how hot my girlfriend is bitches!” level. Summer? I don’t have words. Their healing time over Marissa’s death aged faster than Rip Van Winkle. Fine you screwed up and wrote yourslef into a no win by killing off the hottest woman on TV to date. But you plunge the toilet when it is clogged you don’t keep adding more turds on top.

well this season is better than the 3rd thats for damn sure — and it is way better than the beginning of season 2– but there is something lacking — if u are a true OC fan u will watch and enjoy — but if you are not…. well you wont like it at all - next week is christmahuak —- ahhhh its really good — this is the episode to see —– try watching it - u may like it

I must say that I am quite impressed with the latest episodes. Now they have restored some kind of order to the show and there is at least some direction to it. It’s certainly much better than the chaos that was episodes one to three.

well this season of the oc is filled with drama and good story lines. the first season was better but this one isnt to far from it. i dont think that taylor should be with ryan but i like that taylor became a main character. i dont think this should be the final season
